70 characters. That's what Google gives you on mobile Shopping results. Your entire product story has to fit in 70 characters. Most titles fail this test. Most retailers don't even know the test exists.
The Truncation Problem
On desktop, Google Shopping shows about 150 characters of your product title. Plenty of room. But on mobile — where the majority of shopping traffic now comes from — you get 70 characters before the ellipsis cuts you off. If your brand name and model number don't fit in those 70 characters, the shopper sees a truncated mess.
"Schuberth C5 Carbon Modular Motorcycle Hel..." — the most important information (what makes this helmet special) is literally invisible to the majority of your shoppers.
The De-Hype Problem
Google Shopping has strict policies against promotional language in titles. Words like "Best," "Sale," "FREE SHIPPING," "Top Rated," and ALL CAPS trigger ad disapprovals. You're not just losing impressions — you're getting your entire product feed flagged.
"BEST Motorcycle Helmet - FREE SHIPPING - Sale!" isn't a product title. It's a policy violation. And yet we see titles like this in thousands of product feeds every day.
The Category Mapping Problem
Google has over 6,000 product categories in its taxonomy. Placing your product in the wrong leaf category means higher CPCs, lower relevance scores, and wasted ad spend. A "motorcycle helmet" placed in "Sporting Goods > Cycling > Helmets" instead of "Vehicles > Motor Vehicles > Motorcycle Accessories > Helmets" loses relevance to every searcher looking for motorcycle gear.
Most retailers use broad, top-level categories because manually navigating 6,000+ nodes is impractical. The result: they pay more per click and show up less often.
What Central Does
Central's Google Shopping adapter solves all three problems simultaneously:
- Title engineering — Restructures titles for 70-character mobile truncation, front-loading brand, model, and key differentiator
- De-hype filter — Automatically strips Google-banned promotional language and replaces it with spec-driven, factual content
- AI-powered category mapping — Maps products to the exact right leaf category across 6,000+ nodes, reducing CPCs and increasing relevance
- Product highlights — Generates fact-based, spec-driven highlights under 150 characters each — no slogans, just information Google rewards
Before Central: "BEST Motorcycle Helmet - FREE SHIPPING - Sale!" → Disapproved, wrong category, truncated on mobile.
After Central: "Schuberth C5 Modular Helmet | ECE 22.06 | 1,640g | 4 Shell Sizes" → Approved, correct leaf category, fully visible on mobile, higher CTR.
Google Shopping is the money channel. Every character counts. Every policy violation costs you money. Every wrong category wastes your budget. Central makes every character work.
